TURNING IN A PHOTO
► ID photos will NOT be substituted for a senior picture automatically. If you'd like to use it, please let Mrs. Tighe know.
► Photos do not have to he done professionally.
► Pictures must he digital, saved in high resolution dpi 600+ and saved as a .jpg

THE YEARBOOK COMPANY IN PARTNERSHIP WITH JOSTENS
In order to maintain consistency throughout LCSDI and assist in clarifying expectations and requirements, the district's high school journalism programs created, accepted and adopted the following Senior Portrait Policy. There are to be no exceptions to the policy without respective high school yearbook editorial board agreement and respective building administration support.
LCSD1 high school yearbooks are used as student culminating projects for WHSSPA and WHSAA competition. Books which earn state recognition may be submitted for national competitions. It is with these expectations that LCSD 1 yearbook editors and advisors must expect and maintain a community image and standard. LCSD1 expects school yearbooks to be completed in a timely, tasteful, and respectful manner.
While LCSD1 schools appreciate freedom of expression and creativity in photography, it is the belief of the district's yearbook editors, staff and advisors that a senior photo is a privilege, not a right. It is expected all submitted senior pictures are done in a tasteful and appropriate manner, abiding by community standards and expectations. Each respective school's editorial board retains the right to reject, accept, or modify any and all senior photos. Each photo will be reviewed and judged on individual merit and is subject to acceptance or denial by the respective school's yearbook editors.
LCSD1 Senior Photo Policy:
- The intent of a senior photo is to feature the senior. This privilege is extended to seniors as recognition of the final year of high school. A senior photo is not intended to tell a story or recount an event.
- Photos must be submitted using the respective school's established procedures. Schools commonly require digital-only, high-resolution, .jpg-forinat sµbmissions.
- An individual school may establish school-specific procedures to submit printed, paper photos.
- Schools retain the right to deny photos from social media, including "screen shots."
- Photos which include name and/or graduation year digitally placed on the photo are prohibited.
- The photographer's watermark may not be present on the photo. Photos which include photographer's watermark have not been legally released to use for printing.
- Portraits which include a baby, another child, a family member, or a friend are prohibited.
- Appropriate dress is required. Students shall abide by LCSDI dress code as addressed in full in the student handbooks.
- Props may be included if the prop is appropriate for the intent of the photo, is tasteful and properly displayed, and if the senior remains the primary focal point. Props may be cropped and/or excluded from a photo to abide by yearbook print design requirements.
- We will not include portraits with weapons, alcohol, gang signs or attire or references of any of the listed.
- Seniors who don't submit a senior photo or fail to submit an acceptable senior photo and/or fail to resolve the situation, understand that school ID photos may be substituted for senior photos only if requested by senior/senior's guardian(s).
- A student's ID photo will not automatically be substituted if no portrait is submitted. We will use the ID photo, if one was taken, only if requested by senior/senior's guardian(s).
In Douglass v. Londonderry School, the United States District Court for the District of New Hampshire confirmed only the government can violate the First Amendment, not private individuals. School yearbooks are student-directed publications, not school-owned, therefore student editorial boards retain the right to accept or deny individual photographs in an effort to abide by school and community expectations and standards.
